The Austrian Lotteries have increased the age limit for purchasing lottery tickets and scratch cards to 18 years.

The Austrian Lotteries stated that this is a voluntary self-restriction measure, which is also the case with the current age limit for those over 16 years old.

The new age limit means that people under 18 are not allowed to take part in lottery games such as EuroMillions or buy scratch or postal tickets.

The Austrian Lotteries also stated that lottery agents are still obliged to carry out identity checks on their customers if necessary.

The increase in the age limit will come into force from July 10, 2023.

Last week, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Austria’s financial police, imposed fines of 492,000 euros (£424,915/$525,119) for illegal gambling activities in the first quarter of the year.
